چکیده
Both the open transinguinal preperitoneal repair (TIPP) and laparoscopic total extraperitoneal mesh (TEP) show excellent outcomes. Direct comparative data between these 2 techniques is lacking. The aim of this study was to assess postoperative outcomes quality life (QoL) for techniques. Between 2014 2016, 204 male patients underwent unilateral inguinal hernia through TIPP (n = 135) or TEP 69). Data recorded include demographic profile, preoperative intraoperative variables, complications life. Two validated hernia-specific QoL questionnaires, Carolinas Comfort Scale (CCS) European Registry Abdominal Wall Hernias Quality Life score (EuraHS QoL) were used QoL. group consisted 135 patients, 69 patients. mean age significantly higher in (64.07 ± 17.10 years) than (59.0 15.53 (p 0.022). A 96 (47.1%) responded our invitation longterm follow-up: 58 (43%) 38 (55.1%). There no difference follow-up time surgical procedure filling questionnaires: 37.4 12.8 months 33.5 11.3 0.13). No significant differences found all explored domains. equivalent results considering Compared existing literature on hernias, we may conclude that location probably a more decisive factor approach used.

Editor—In Wellwood et al’s trial of laparoscopic hernia repair versus open mesh repair only patients fit for general anaesthesia were preselected. We do not know if the rejected patients were suitable for local anaesthesia, which is usually ideal for frail and elderly patients and those with high American Society of Anesthesiologists grades. The type of anaesthesia used greatly affects morbidit...

conclusions laparoscopic tapp inguinal hernia repair has longer operation time and more cost than the open technique. local wound complications were more prevalent in the open repair. the postoperative pain, the hospital stay, the scrotal-related complications as well as the recurrence rates were the same in the both groups. the laparoscopy can detect and treat other intra-abdominal pathologies...
متن کاملAn experience with mesh versus darn repair in inguinal hernias
BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVE The inguinal hernia accounts for 50 percent in old age males. A Lichtenstein type of operation has now become the method of choice in most developed countries but in the developing world traditional simple suture repair is still in common practice in resource limited hospitals due to the scarcity and expensive nature of the commercial prosthetic mesh. Our objective was to...
متن کاملSingle-Port Onlay Mesh Repair of Recurrent Inguinal Hernias after Failed Anterior and Laparoscopic Repairs
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Despite the exponential increase in the use of laparoscopic inguinal herniorrhaphy, overall recurrence rates have remained unchanged. Therefore, a growing number of patients are presenting with recurrent hernias after conventional anterior and laparoscopic repairs have failed. This study reports our experience with single-incision laparoscopic (SIL) intraperitoneal onl...
